A customer wanted a ‘quick and dirty’ way to update master data without setting up Data Providers and Import Scenarios. The solution I’ll discuss today is called Simple Scenario. With simplified scenarios, you skip to the Import by Scenario form and run the import procedure on the form.
Obviously, some basic understanding of the master form is necessary. But Simple Scenario makes this a straightforward endeavor in 3 easy steps. I will use Stock Items as an example, though the same approach applies to customers, vendors, and other master records.
Step 1 – study the form and understand the nodes and data structure. Let’s suppose there is a warehouse reorganization and some inventory items are moved to new storage locations. Open the Stock Items form (IN202500) and look up the fields to update.
The relationship is between the item (Inventory ID) and its location (Default Issue From). In addition, note the ‘Default Issue From’ field is grouped under ‘Warehouse Defaults’ in the General Settings tab.
Step 2 – prepare data on a spreadsheet and pair up items and their new storage locations. For ease of legibility, I named columns with the same field names (i.e. Inventory ID and Default Issue From). Make sure new locations are added to the warehouse (IN204000) before referencing them for inventory storage.
Step 3 – use Simple Scenario to import records. Go to Integration > Import by Scenario and click ‘+’ to add a new record. Select the spreadsheet file to upload to Acumatica and navigate through the settings for the new scenario.
Next, go to the Mapping tab and match the source fields to the target fields for each Excel column. Save the scenario when complete.
To view the data before importing, click the Prepare button and go to the Prepared Data tab.
Lastly, click the Import button to proceed and sample records to confirm changes made. In this example, I changed the ‘Default Issue From’ location from R1S1 to R5S1.
