Here is the scenario I ran into:
I had three different requests last week related to changing the project ID number in Acumatica. How do we make these changes?
The Solution
A segmented key is a system identifier for a certain type of objects. Some of these include general ledger accounts and subaccounts, customer and vendor accounts, warehouses, and projects. The segmented key then serves as a template when a user creates an identifier for a new object of the type.
Here are the requests I had:
I want to change the length of the project ID, can I do that?
Can I just type in a project ID rather an incrementing number?
Can we change the project ID sequence number format?
In Acumatica, segmented keys are defined in the configuration workspace.
In the segmented key for projects, we can adjust the ID length and have it auto number. By unchecking the Auto Number field, you can enter the project ID
You also can control what shows as a place holder for ID when the user creates a new project. This is found in the configuration workspace —> Segment Values
Finally, you can control the numbering sequences the Acumatica uses to populate the ID for a new project. This is found in the configuration workspace —> Numbering Sequences Values
Should you have any questions or need help with any of these types of changes, please contact us.
